Two boxes, 'FOOD' (sorry, no homemade goodies allowed) & 'NON-FOOD',
will be located at Dragon Exhaust. Periodically, the contents of these
two boxes will be re-packed into smaller boxes and addressed according
to the instructions given for the specific unit. The necessary U.S.customs forms
describing the contents will be filled out and the boxes will taken over to
the Post Office. The US Postal Service will then move the boxes to the
distribution center in Jersey City, where they will leave as overseas military mail
and will be delivered to the ANY SOLDIER representative who has provided
the unit's information on the ANY SOLDIER.COM web-site.
We wish this to be an on going project, not just a one shot deal. We hope to
send shipments out as frequently as the filling of the collection boxes dictates.
Our intention is to choose a unit of troops with considerable time left on their
current assignment and concentrate on gettng the specifically requested
items to them.
When a specific unit has been selected, we will post in
the panel to the right, the 'clicks' around the ANY SOLDIER.COM web-site
to find the ANY SOLDIER representative's request letter. Doing this is
necessary because ANY SOLDIER prohibits the cutting & pasting of any
web-site contents. The letter usually tells alittle bit about the troops in the unit,
what tasks the unit specializes in and their preferences, followed by specific
directions to obtain the actual address for us to ship to. The requested items,
along with some we have thought of, will be included on the checklist below.
Simply deposit your choice of item(s) in the designated boxes at Dragon
Exhaust and then e-mail me what you contributed so that I can list it as donated.
If you wish to not have your name listed as the donor, please state that in your
e-mail. It is our hope that with coordinating it in this manner, we will be able to
send as many different requested items as possible.
You can also make contributions through our secure PayPal link.
These funds will be used to cover the cost of boxes and shipping & handling
by the USPS to ship the boxes to their destination overseas. These funds can
also go towards purchasing bulk quantities of many items from Sam's Club,
BJ's or Costco.
If you prefer, you may send CASH CONTRIBUTIONS in your own name
(not associated with DEK MC) directly to ANY SOLDIER via thePayPal link
on the ANY SOLDIER web-site.
Shipping will be provided by the
to Jersey City and then by the APO AE
(Army Post Office - Europe)
Sending a letter of gratitude and a touch of 'home' to a troop is often more rewarding to him or her than receiving anything else. Perhaps adding a self
addressed envelope and a sheet of paper (and maybe even a pen) might get
you a reply in return. Don't count on it though. Remember the circumstances the
troop is in. Besides, at that age, did you write home when you were away in the
service or at college? I mean to actually say 'hello', not a request for more money.
DONATIONS TO DATE
(REMEMBER: shipments are going into a desert. CHOCOLATE melts at just below human body temperature. Obviously, there are some months when it wouldn't be good to send candy bars.
Keep an eye on the weather in the right panel to determine when it would not be advised.)
OK folks, I think we may have a group of home grown Marines that we can get behind.
They are from NJ, 35 males and 5 females. These numbers probably change a little from time to time, but it is a significant size group and I think a good one to send our moral support.
Any Soldier's web site prohibits copying the post and pictures, but you can go to...
web-site, select the drop down, "View Contacts Sorted By" and select "Where Unit is from", then select NJ.
There is only one Marine unit in the list, (as of 4/16/07) indicated by the M in the second column. Our Any Soldier
representative is Ivan A. Gotay.
There is the original message from the Marine as well as photos that he included.
It looks like they are a group of mechanics so being "adopted" by a group of bikers might suit them just fine. Take a look at their profile and see what you think.
